Owner's notes:
This sign appeared one day at our old apartment building on Tonnele Avenue. It was created by our then-superintendent Patricia (or, more correctly, “self-appointed super”) as a reminder for the building’s residents to recycle. I believe that Patricia’s boyfriend/husband was actually hired to do maintenance work on the building, but very rapidly it appeared as though Patricia — who seemed to be suffering from some acute form of mental illness — usurped him. All we knew is that practically overnight, our building — which already was suffering from neglect, crime, and numerous other problems — was taken over by a woman who seemed ill fit to walk down the street, let alone maintain a building.

After weeks of enduring this woman who would, for instance, stand in the hallway and scream profanities at no one in particular, police showed up and escorted her off the premises. Several weeks after that incident, she returned to the building with a social worker and pounded on the door of our apartment while I hid on the other side pretending not to be home (I assume she was trying to find someone to let her into her place so she could collect her belongings). Once she was gone for good, my husband Jeff went around and collected as many of her signs as he could.
